How do job roles work in terms of the MLA?

The MLA offers job roles to students who successfully graduate from the programme or at times, depending on the opportunity taken, an education-only opportunity.

What kind of roles are on offer?
Do I need to resign from my current job?
Do I have to accept a job with the sponsoring company after completing the MLA?
Why do some roles require a financial/background check?
What is the salary for the role?

What kind of roles are on offer?

The roles available are dependent on the company. This can vary between education-only, (sponsorship opportunity), fixed-term contracts and full-time/permanent roles. Most of our roles are full-time and permanent. Please read the job specification for each role carefully before submitting your form.

Applicants can only submit one form per cohort, so make sure you are certain about your first choice before submitting 📝

Do I need to resign from my current job?

If you have applied for a place on the MLA that has a role you will need to give notice to your current employer. Please read each company application criteria carefully, and do not resign from your current role until you have signed your contract with the company.

However, if you would prefer to stay in your current role, you are welcome to ask your current company if they would sponsor you on the programme. Please speak to your manager about your interest in completing our training and if they are keen to find out more they can request a meeting with us via the following form

If you are applying for an education-only opportunity, you do not need to resign from your current job.

Do I have to accept a job with the sponsoring company after completing the MLA?

Yes- if you are applying for a job opportunity. As part of you accepting a place on the MLA, you will be asked to sign an agreement stating that you will accept a job offer from the sponsoring company if this is specified in the application (Our education-only opportunities often don't have a role attached).

Once the agreement is signed, receipt of your course certificate depends on the acceptance of the job offer and completion of any related interviews within the sponsor company.

As established earlier, not all applications on the MLA lead to roles. We also have education-only opportunities called MLA Scholars which can be applied to but please note there will be limited places for these.

Why do some roles require a financial/background check?

Financial institutions in particular usually request a financial background check for all staff members. Some companies require this as an ongoing process, for example, every 5 years for existing staff members.

We encourage applicants to financial institutions, in particular, to complete a soft financial check from a website like ClearScore to check for anything in your financial history that may be flagged. If you have a CCJ on your record, this may be listed on a sponsor company credit check and may be raised by the hiring company during pre-employment screenings. If you are aware of anything at the application stage, please disclose this to the sponsor company.

What is the salary for the role?

If the role leads to a job opportunity and is not an educational only opportunity, each sponsor company has a different role on offer and details of the salary will be provided at the company interview stage. If this is not included in the interview sheet candidates receive once they are put forward to interview, the company has not disclosed the salary with us and this should be discussed at interview stage.

We do not publish the salary at the application stage as our aim is to match the right candidate to each sponsor company, so your choice can be based on the role and company that fits best for you, taking into consideration the advantages that different organisations have to offer beyond salary.
